Privacy Policy

The @cal Alumni Network exists to help current and future alumni maintain their connection to one another, and to help the University maintain its lifelong relationship with its alumni. The secure areas of the network are accessible only to members of the UC Berkeley community defined as degree holders, attendees, and authorized users. The information contained in secure areas of the website is for the University to contact members for University business and for individual, non-commercial communication between members listed herein. Use of this data for any other purpose is  strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to reproduction and storing data in a retrieval system by any means or using any information contained in this directory for direct mailing of more than five people. UC Berkeley has taken reasonable precautions to secure the personal information available through the alumni network. The alumni network is located on a secure website that incorporates the latest encryption technology. Although these precautions should protect any personal information available through the alumni network from abuse or outside interference, a certain degree of privacy risk is faced any time information is shared over the Internet. Therefore, through the section of the network called "My Profile" and "My Account," users have the ability to control the nature and amount of information available to other users. This functionality is available at the time @cal membership is confirmed.

Individuals also have the right to withhold their information entirely from the online alumni directory. Individuals may choose to withhold their information from the online alumni directory thereby opt out of the @cal alumni network. Individuals who decline @cal Policies have not opted out of the @cal alumni network until they notify the University by sending an e-mail. Until they email the University, their name and basic information will appear in the alumni network.
